I'll be an incoming freshman this fall at UF and I was wondering what living in the International Housing is like. I'm an American growing up in Florida, but they accept them to live there to help with the international students. Are they students usually pretty nice? Do you do activities within your floor/building? Any information on the living communities at UF would be great.|||The UF Dept. of Housing & Residence Education has fantastic living-learning communities. Studies show that students that live on-campus have higher GPAs, graduate at higher rates, and experience more leadership opportunities. These statistics are even higher in the living-learning communities.

The international living-learning community is in Weaver Hall. Weaver has a bunch of international students there (as I'm sure you know), and they have a lot of fun events where the students showcase food/clothing/etc from their country. The Tolbert Area is pretty awesome because they havMud Festst, where you can play fun sports in the mud - and all of the halls compete againseach otherer.

The other area you should check out is the Yulee Global Living Learning Community. They also have a lot of fun international awareness events and it's on the other side of campus - so you get options on where you want to live. They have a serenity room, that's great for students that want to meditate, pray, etc. Both areas are pretty cool - plus it's a great way to meet people and network incase you want to study abroad.

Cliff Haynes is a great resource for AIE questions (cliffh@housing.ufl.edu). He might have some more information.

Statistics from: www.housing.ufl.edu and www.housing.ufl.edu/aie/|||very poor quality housing - awful drugs scene - gainesville is fast going downhill
