I have been working at IHOP International House of Pancakes for almost 2 years, I have been there as a hostess, i like my job and have seen how thw waiters and waitresses work. I have talked to my manager about becoming however he says i am to young however also he hired a 17 year old about 2 years ago who worked as a waitress and worked for a shorter time than i did.My manager also recently hired a host, he already has more days because of me going to school, and he is even giving him more days on my vacations, I also have a boyfriend we argue out of work however not once have we during work and my manager has known us longer than anybody else, He also said "women don't need to work Its men who should do it, I really want to take care of this I need help. Any advice please i can really use it.|||If you speak like you type, you need to work on your verbal communication skills, and that could very well be one reason you haven't gotten the position you want.
Also, I can tell you from personal experience that watching boyfriends and girlfriends make goo goo eyes at each other at work is extremely annoying to coworkers.
So before you file a complaint, I suggest you talk things over with your parents or a coworker. They might mention something you don't see, which could help you be a better worker not only at IHOP but anywhere you go.|||But women do need to work. File a complaint to your local labor board. By law if you file a complaint he can not fire you out of retaliation.|||Well first you question is very confusing.

second I don't know the law where you are but you may very well be too young, and he may have gotten in trouble for hiring this other young person.

third if your boss has been sexist you need to talk to the person above their head and work from there.

the other person is getting more shifts because they can work more hours.|||You could go to your State Human Resources Office (employment)
and file a complaint. Tell them what he has done, especially the
women don't need to work remark.
But in the long run it probably won't get you very far, but it might.
Other wise quit. You're young, go find a better job.|||Restaurant work is difficult work no matter how yu look at it --- and the Managers are almost always D I F F I C U L T --- mostly cuz itzza Hella complicated JOB they have to deal w/ every personality in the place -that's mind boggling. Move to another classier restaurant asap --- yir experience shood QUALIFY yu for another job doing the same thing QUIK. The sooner yu leave ON GOOD TERMS the better. If your manager really misses yu he will really be glad to hire yu back and agree more to yir wishes after yuuv bin gone awhile and given him a chance to KNO what he'ez missing. On the other hand, HOPEFULLY YOUR NEW JOB will BE the improovement yir wishing for. Keep changing jobs til yu git what yu want. YOUR doing all the HARD PART yu deserve to have it go as would like to be treated.|||Sounds like you are holding down the fort to me, very nice!|||By law your employer can not discriminate against you by race, gender, or disability. You have the right to move up in your line of work with due experience. As long as you qualify in terms of how good a job you do, you cannot be held back from promotion. You could go to the workforce center in your area and file a complaint against sexual discrimination regarding your position in the workplace, or you could get another job. Now, I said: "get another job" because if you just quit and can't find another job, you are left without income. Apply for other jobs you are interested in while you are working the job you currently hold. Notify your current employer of your new job once you are ensured of it. This is called giving your: "two weeks notice". It is two weeks in advance before you quit so your employer will have time to find someone to fill your position before you leave. Following those steps when/if you decide to get a new job will give your employer more respect towards you for your consideration and will allow you to use that work experience as a good reference. Sorry this was so long, but I hope it helps.|||~wow! so much drama at the IHOP! whoever knew all this was going on while I am enjoying my pancakes! You have 2 years experience as a waitress. Use this to your advantage when you APPLY FOR ANOTHER JOB!!!!!~
