Hello everyone.

I'll be studying at San Diego State University for my second year of study.

I'm going to be living in the International House and I have to get heavily involved as it has real community spirit

Has anyone got any ideas for British themed days or nights?

I have come up with so far:

British food: Fish and chips, mushy peas and tea/Cadburys chocolate

Pub crawls

Pub quiz

Bingo

If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful.

Thanks in advance to all sensible answers.

=)|||Drink tons of Stella and then start a fight. Sorry that wasn't sensible, but we are having a real problem with drinking and alcohol related crime in UK at the moment, If you really want to impress your British friends have a Curry night, they will love it.|||only fools and horses dress up night|||harry potter night or robin hood night and dr who night an knights of the round table night|||MMMM i live in the US and I love cadbury chocolate and bingo. Those are good ideas.
Do something like breads or cheese. =)|||You can not go far wrong playing Beatle records and eating fish and chips but there must be a television in the room playing ENGLISH football.

Have fun.|||How about a Robert Burns night with haggis, neeps (mashed turnip) and mashed potatoes served with single malt scotch whisky.|||* Compromise your throne by marrying a plebeian night!

* Murder your daughter-in-law in an underpass day!

* Incest is Royal Fun night!

You catch my drift, don't you? You'll be the sensation, trust me!|||You could all go as Diana or Charles, - Same idea as the Vicars & Tarts parties I went to as a student. All the Nerds went as Vicars, all the lads went as Tarts. The women got to chose also.|||Car boot sale - get people to bring all their junk to sell, get them to park in a car park and open up their trunks (they'll need folding tables to put the stuff on). You charge $10 a car, don't charge the customers and the sellers keep the rest.

Fish 'n Chips night (with mushy peas, pickled onions and pickled eggs)

Beach party with Kiss Me Quick hats, those things you stand behind and put your head through, thus depicting one in an hilarious situation, sticks of rock, more fish 'n' chips, candy floss. For a true Brit seaside resort you need something like a Hall of Mirrors, crazy golf or even a Freaks' Gallery. Hankies on heads and deckchairs.

IN some places they have things like cheese fairs and apple pie fairs. You could have a yokel party or summer fair or something, and people have to make cakes or jam or something and they win prizes. Might teach y'all how to cook ;-) Then at the end you get a massive apple pie baked or get a massive cheese and everyone has a bit. You could also have tug o' war games and apple bobbing. Put someone in the stocks and throw tomatoes at them.

Oh, and the obligatory devon cream tea! Lots of tea, scones and jam 'n' cream. Charge $5 a pop and get everyone to wear posh hats and frocks.|||Morris's dancing, 5 a side football, cricket, Elgar music
.Wellie throwing for a laugh.|||I'm sure you're going to get people saying you should have too much alcohol and throwing up and violence will be a bonus. It's not sensible, but it's so often true in the UK.

In all seriousness you should have curry as well as fish and chips - it's probably just as if not more popular over here than the traditional fish and chips. But please don't have mushy peas. They're just awful, and nobody will eat them. I hate them and I'm British! Yuck.

Bring on the cadbury's though! Better than any of that american rubbish you call chocolate - it's disgusting. Try to get real ales and cider in (and Scotch whisky goes without saying) - these are much more British than lager is, even though lager is drunk more often.

Don't forget for the pub quiz, don't make it too easy! Pub quizzes are often pretty challenging containing lots of specialist questions.

You should of course have a football tournament. That goes without saying. There's also some pretty weird British pub games you could play, http://www.tradgames.org.uk/ there's plenty here. If you want to be especially extreme then find a hill as steep as possible (we're talking practically a cliff) and throw a wheel of cheese down it. The object of the "game" is to reach the bottom of the hill (obviously without killing/maiming yourself) in order to get to the wheel of cheese first. (more at http://www.cheese-rolling.co.uk/)

Good luck!
